6 Tips for Uterine Fibroid Prevention

A uterine fibroid is a non-cancerous tumor that originates from the smooth muscle layer of the uterus. Fibroids can cause problems ranging from abnormal bleeding, painful periods, urinary problems, painful bowel movements, abdominal discomfort or bloating, backache, and in some cases, infertility. Though the symptoms are significant, there are many things women can do to prevent fibroids from developing.

Regular exercise

Obesity is one of the causes of fibroids. Fibroids also cause weight gain. Regular exercise is crucial to staying healthy and is one of the cornerstones to preventing fibroids. Your immune system will be stronger and you will lower your chances of gaining weight.

Dietary changes

Changes in your diet will do more to prevent fibroids than any other method. We live in a world where people constantly make poor food choices. Eating foods that are high in sugar, saturated fats, and other estrogenic compounds will raise your chances of developing fibroids.

Fibroids thrive in conditions where estrogen levels are high. When the estrogen levels are reduced, the fibroids will slowly shrink and die off.

Increase dietary fiber

Include fiber in your diet. Eat lots of green, leafy vegetables. Fruit is great too. You should be eating wholesome food that is preferably organic. This will not only improve your health but is extremely beneficial to preventing fibroids.

Herbs may help

Use herbs to supplement your diet. Prevention is better than cure. Consume herbs like garlic, Echinacea, yarrow, red raspberry, cinnamon, etc. It would be a good idea to consult an expert for sound advice.

Minimize stress

Stress is another factor. Meditate, relax or do whatever it takes to calm your frazzled nerves. Life is short. Do not take it too seriously or it will become shorter. Have a laugh when you can and try and stay positive. If you are diagnosed with fibroids, try not to be overly stressed.

Get regular check-ups

Go for regular check-ups. This goes without saying. Yet, so many women procrastinate their check-ups and the fibroids go undiagnosed until some serious sign such as excessive bleeding or bad cramps start occurring. By then, the problem is much bigger and will take more effort to deal with.

Use the above tips to keep fibroids at bay and always remember that fibroids occur because of imbalances in the body. They can be removed by restoring hormonal balance in the body using natural remedies.
